Sleeping driver leads troopers to drug, weapons bust
State troopers busted a Massachusetts man for allegedly transporting drugs, weapons and money on the Taconic Parkway Thursday.
Troopers stopped to help what they thought was a disabled vehicle on the side of the road. Police discovered that the driver, 32-year-old Jimi Hawes, was asleep at the wheel. Troopers searched the car and seized cocaine, with a $10,000 street value, mace, a stun gun and almost $12,000 in cash.
Police say Hawes was on his way home from the Bronx. He was arraigned on drug and weapons charges.
