Six arrested in Algonquin gas pipeline protests
Six people were arrested in Peekskill on Monday as protests against the Algonquin gas pipeline continue.
The protests are part of an ongoing effort to stop Spectra Energy from widening the Algonquin gas pipeline across areas of the Hudson Valley, including coming within yards of Indian Point nuclear power plant in Buchanan.
The protesters set up a 20-foot tripod to block construction of Spectra Energy's pipeline expansion. They then moved to the Peekskill police department.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo and other lawmakers have urged the federal government to halt construction of the pipeline.
The pipeline will transport gas through parts of the Northeast.
