The wreckage of the US Airways Flight 1549 jet that was pulled out of the Hudson River following an emergency landing could be moving to the site of the old General Motors plant in Sleepy Hollow.
Investigators of the crash have inquired about using the GM plant as a holding site for the plane because the location is large, secure and close to the Hudson River.
?They were looking for sites where they could offload the airplane and at their leisure...analyze what happened,? says Sleepy Hollow Mayor Philip Zegarelli.
The arrangement has yet to be confirmed. It is still not known whether the barge holding the plane can approach the site. Zegarelli says Sleepy Hollow is willing to do whatever it takes to transport the plane to the chosen location.
Local residents say they would welcome the nationally known plane to Sleepy Hollow.
If the plane is moved to Sleepy Hollow, it will remain there for approximately six months. The Flight 1549 jet is currently housed at a marina in Jersey City, N.J.
The plane crashed into the river just moments after taking off from LaGuardia Airport Jan. 15 because of engine problems. All 155 people on board survived.
