Police are searching for two suspects after they tried to stop a reportedly stolen vehicle near the border of Mount Vernon and the Bronx Thursday.
Authorities say they were watching a black BMW with a license plate that was reported stolen last week.
Sources say an officer tried stopping two people approaching the vehicle but was dragged about a block before it crashed into another car. They say that's when two suspects, a man and a woman, emerged from the vehicle and took off.
News 12 is told the officer did suffer minor injuries but is expected to be OK.
Officials say an officer fired his gun during the pursuit. They believe no one was on the receiving end of the shot.
The NYPD’s 47th Precinct in the Bronx also responded to the scene.
Officers surrounded the neighborhood and blocked off nearby roadways using K-9 units.
A nearby school, Mount Saint Michael Academy, was placed on a lockdown that has since been lifted.
