ShopRite cashier: ‘I was sent home for wearing a Black Lives Matter mask’

A Rockland grocery store cashier says she was sent home from work for wearing a Black Lives Matter mask.

Shanden Suazo, 22, works at the ShopRite in Pearl River, and she says she was sent home by management last Thursday after she refused to take off her homemade Black Lives Matter mask.

The Suffern woman says other workers are allowed to wear masks with the American flag, and says she doesn't see the difference. "For them to tell me I have to take my mask off, it's a slap in the face."
News 12 reached out to ShopRite for comment, but has not yet heard back.
Suazo has returned to work with a different mask.
