Sheldon Silver wants a $100,000 pension
Former New York Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver could be getting a big pension despite his corruption conviction earlier this week, according to published reports.
The New York Times say that Silver filed the paperwork for his pension this week. Several groups have estimated he could receive nearly $100,000 a year.
On Monday, Silver was found guilty on charges he used his political status to make $4 million in bribes and kickbacks. Silver says he plans to appeal that verdict.
While state law allows convicted lawmakers to receive pensions, U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara is expected to try and stop Silver from collecting the money.
