As if coronavirus isn’t scary enough, beachgoers on Long Island were ordered out of the water after multiple shark sightings Monday.
A lifeguard patrolling in the water at Lido Beach spotted the first shark around 10:15 a.m. "It came out, shot out of the water, spun around and it didn't look like a dolphin, it was definitely a shark," says lifeguard Logan Fitzgerald.
Officials believe the shark in Lido Beach was a bull shark, approximately 7 to 10-feet long and about 8 to 10-feet from the shoreline.
The second sighting was in Long Beach early Monday afternoon. The water, all the way from Atlantic Beach to Jones Beach, was shut down to swimmers.
Lifeguards had been on high alert after a ray with "sizable" chunks bitten off was discovered earlier in the week.
Shortly before 5 p.m., people were allowed back into the water at all Hempstead beaches, but only at knee-deep depth.
