A Bedford teenager who pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence charges may face serious jail time after a judge withdrew his plea deal Thursday.

Ralph Tarchine, 19, pleaded guilty to second-degree vehicular manslaughter and other charges related to two accidents. The first accident on December 10, 2005 killed 17-year-old Michael Plunkett, son of News 12 Westchester financial correspondent Bob Plunkett. Tarchine admitted he was under the influence of drugs when his SUV rolled over. Tarchine also admitted he was drunk when he crashed his parents' car into a utility pole in January of 2006, injuring his passenger, Daniel Gibbs.The judge withdrew the plea deal on the day in which Tarchine was to be sentenced to six months in jail and five years probation. The judge gave Tarchine the opportunity to withdraw his guilty plea and go to trial or keep his guilty plea and accept a stricter sentence. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for March 8. Tarchine now faces up to seven years in prison.
