Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer was in Poughkeepsie Monday to advocate on behalf of the Undetectable Firearms Act.
The federal law makes undetectable plastic firearms, or "ghost guns" illegal.
It's set to expire this week for the first time in a decade.
Schumer called the law’s renewal crucial in protecting the public. He was joined by sheriffs from Dutchess and Ulster counties.
