Second teen charged in execution-style slaying
Authorities at Mount Vernon City Hall announced Tuesday that a second suspect has been charged in the execution-style slaying of a man.
Police stopped and arrested 17-year-old Enric Devers, of New Rochelle, Monday after he got into a car. He is charged with murder and criminal possession of a weapon. Monday, authorities announced the weekend arrest of another suspect, 18-year-old Robert Lewis.
Authorities believe Devers was looking to elevate his status in the Bloods gang with the murder. Investigators say the suspects fatally shot 20-year-old Reginald Rogers on a Mount Vernon street on April 24, possibly thinking he was a Crips member.
The superintendent at the building where Devers lives with his mother says he was shocked to hear about the arrest. He said Devers? mother had recently moved to New Rochelle to escape the violence in Mount Vernon.
Mount Vernon officials are holding town meetings in the wake of a recent string of violence.
