Divers are expected back in the waters of the Hudson River Sunday to search for two missing tugboat crewmen who are presumed dead after their boat crashed into a barge near the Tappan Zee Bridge.
The tugboat overturned around 5 a.m. Saturday and was fully submerged when crews arrived.
One man, identified as 62-year-old Paul Amon, was pulled from the water, according the U.S. Coast Guard. Emergency crews performed CPR, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two missing crewmen have not yet been identified, but officials say one is a 29-year-old man.
Officials say the tugboat was escorting a barge with a crane along with two tugboats on the Hudson River and was heading toward Jersey City when it crashed into a stationary barge.
The tugboat was carrying 5,000 gallons of fuel, which has spilled into the Hudson River. DEC crews are expected to continue the cleanup effort Sunday.
Officials say the tugboat was not associated with the Tappan Zee Bridge construction project.
