Search for kayaker enters 4th day
State police and family members are once again along the shorelines the Hudson River looking for a missing kayaker.
This is day four in an extensive search for 46-year-old missing kayaker Vincent Viafore. Police say the Poughkeepsie man presumably drowned Sunday night while kayaking with his fiancée, 35-year-old Angelika Graswald, near Cornwall. Graswald was rescued by a nearby boater, but Viafore, who police say wasn't wearing a life jacket, was never found.
State Police say they're not able to go out on the river by boat today because the water is too choppy, but that they are doing ground searches along the shoreline and will try to search overhead by helicopter when weather permits.
Police have expanded their grid search from the area of Newburgh Beacon Bridge to the Bear Mountain Bridge. Authorities in neighboring municipalities have been notified to be on alert along the shoreline.
