U.S. Senate Majority leader Chuck Schumer said he plans to hold a vote on Wednesday on codifying the U.S. Supreme Court Roe v. Wade decision into law.
The ruling legalized abortion nationwide in 1973.
A draft opinion leaked to the public suggests the U.S. Supreme Court could be poised to overturn that landmark decision.
Schumer called the Supreme Court justices and Republicans in Congress "extreme."
Congress can do little to stop the court from undoing Roe v. Wade unless more Republicans join Democrats in voting to protect abortion access, which is almost certainly unlikely.
