Dan Schorr, the GOP challenger for Westchester district attorney, says he wants to establish a new ombudsman position to work as a liaison between local police departments at the district attorney's office.
According to Schorr, a recent case in which Pleasantville Police Sgt. Stephen Bonura was brought up on disciplinary charges demonstrates a need for facilitated communication.
Bonura allegedly criticized Westchester District Attorney Janet DiFiore's handling of a career criminal, who he says got off lightly after 30 arrests and a burglary spree. Bonura says he was suspended without pay for vocally challenging the ruling, but DiFiore claims Bonura revealed confidential information about the case.
DiFiore says local police have no trouble communicating with her office.
