School district stands firm on clock prank ruling
The school district is standing firm in its decision to not allow 19 accused clock pranksters to participate in the Hendrick Hudson High School graduation ceremony.
There have been some last-ditch efforts by some to get the students back into Friday?s ceremony. The mother of an accused student said the school district went too far with the punishment. She also said she sees no hope of her son graduating.
The students allegedly broke into the school and put 67 ticking alarm clocks in the building, set to go off on Monday morning. The incident prompted a bomb scare. The students have since been charged by state police with planting a fake bomb, which is a felony.
An attorney for one of the students said the alleged pranksters should not be charged with a felony since state police did not call the Westchester Bomb Squad into the school. He claims the felony charge is what prompted the school district to bar the students from graduation.
However, Tito Davila, a spokesperson for the district, said the issue does not revolve around the actions of the bomb squad. ?The reason why the youths will not be walking in graduation is because the rules of conduct of the district were violated by a disruption caused at the school,? Davila said in a statement.
