Several school buses were damaged after a fire swept through a garage in Yorktown on Wednesday.
Fire officials say the two-alarm blaze broke out at the Bauman Bus Company on Front Street around 5 p.m.
Crews were able to hold the bulk of the fire to a repair area of the garage. Amidst heavy smoke, firefighters broke out hazmat booms and pads to sop up any fuel or other hazardous fluids that might have begun to mix with the runoff water and foam that was used to extinguish the fire. It took about an hour to get it all under control.
No one was injured in the fire but one bus was destroyed while two others were damaged. The garage section of the building sustained heavy damage.
The fire has not affected the company’s ability to get children to their schools on time
There is no word on an exact cause yet
