Juul is a nicotine-laced, sweet-flavored e-cigarette that some students are having a hard time escaping, according to a Scarsdale high school student who is warning about it on social media.
In a video posted online, the student discusses its pull.
“I’ll be writing, and all of the sudden I’ll want a Juul rip,” the student recounts in the video, referring to an inhaled hit of the substance. “I’ll have Juul in my right hand and my pencil in my left.”
According to its manufacturer, Juul is an alternative for smokers. It's not tobacco. It comes in sweet flavors like whipped cream.
Parents in the Easterchester School District are concerned their children are being peer pressured to try it.
Patti Li says her 12-year-old daughter was approached at Eastchester Middle School and asked to “smell something.”
"It turns out it was Mango-flavored Juul," Li said. "These kids are starting very young."
Li said that they are doing it in the school bathrooms and on the soccer field.
Parents in the school district said that they want to know where the students are buying the product.
News 12 found at least one gas station on Central Avenue in Edgemont selling Juul.
The attendant denied selling it to underage children.
Officials from the district told News 12 that the incident was thoroughly investigated by middle school staff and it was determined that it was not a case of Juul use or vaping.
But they admit that Juul use and other illegal devices have become more frequent among students.
