? A state lawmaker is sharing her personal story of being sexually assaulted in an effort to get the statute of limitations lifted on similar crimes.
Assemblywoman Amy Paulin (D-Scarsdale) told her colleagues this week that she was attacked at the age of 14, but she kept it a secret from everyone for decades. Paulin says sharing her story helps her heal while illustrating the need to lift the five-year statute of limitations to arrest and charge suspects of rape and other sex crimes. She believes the crimes should be treated as seriously as other offenses.
Paulin says she expects the measure to pass when it goes to the New York Assembly next week.
