The Tarrytown Salvation Army is giving away free groceries Friday for those in need in the tough economic climate.
Salvation Army workers say it has seen a serious rise in the number of people waiting in line for the free food. Dozens of people Friday morning lined up for bags of canned food, fruits and vegetables.
The Salvation Army says it has seen about a 40 percent increase of people receiving free food since September. Summer months usually bring more traffic with kids home all day and as donations typically decline.
