A day after a man was almost buried alive inside a collapsed trench, the town of Eastchester has put a stop work order at the construction site due to a lack of permits.
Fire officials say 47-year-old Abiear Herman was pouring concrete Thursday near a mansion at 8 East Way when a dugout collapsed, burying him under 9 feet of concrete and dirt.
According to fire officials, contractors were not using proper safety procedures. Eastchester officials are now looking into whether proper permits for the job were issued or necessary. Brian Donnelly, of OSHA, which is also investigating the safety procedures at the site, says it could take up to six months to determine what caused the collapse.
?If there were violations of the OSHA standards, or practices, we would offer citations to the company,? Donnelly says.
The Long Island-based company in charge of the construction, National Waterproofing Systems, has not returned calls for comment.
Meanwhile, Herman was taken to Westchester Medical Center. His condition is still unknown.
