A Rye High School freshman was selected to be the very special guest of Rep. Jamaal Bowman during President Joe Biden's address to Congress.
Maddy Walsh was one of four students who created and helped run the Rye Highs School COVID-19 vaccine hotline. The hotline was created to help dozens of Rye seniors sign up for appointments at a time when it was very difficult to get the vaccine.
The students helped nearly 100 people between February and April.
Walsh says they simply did it because they knew many people in their community were having a hard time, and they wanted to do their part to aid them.
Rep. Bowman personally visited the school and presented Bowman and the 12 other students who volunteered for the project a congressional recognition certificate.
