The roof of a Pelham school under construction collapsed Saturday, trapping two workers underneath tons of debris.
The collapse happened at around 12 p.m. at the Colonial Elementary School on Highbrook Avenue while no children were on the premises. The school's library and art room have been undergoing an expansion.
Two construction workers were pulled from under the rubble and taken to Jacobi Medical Center to be treated for head injuries and fractures. Both men are listed in serious condition.
Police are working with OSHA to determine if the collapse was caused by any safety violations. It remains unknown when the school will reopen.
