The Village of Mamaroneck declared a local state of emergency to deal with a rodent infestation.

Village Manager Jerry Barberio said the problems in the Washingtonville neighborhood have created health, safety and welfare issues.

Barberio said in a statement that the emergency was declared "to combat small mammal infestations including but not limited to various control methods, repeat inspections, and consistent monitoring."

The local emergency will remain in effect until Aug. 6, unless Barberio rescinds it.
