Guests at Rockland Lake State Park are expected to practice strict social distancing at the popular public pool that reopened today.
Officials at the pool say they will be at 50% capacity or 1,000 person limit; the slide will be closed, and concessions and picnic tables will be separated by 10-feet.
Jade York, of Nyack, says despite the pandemic, she feels comfortable at the park.
“It’s awesome, it’s the first day, it’s super clean and it’s not even busy,” says York. “I feel totally comfortable.”
Anyone not in the pool will also have to wear a mask.
If patrons decide to leave, they'll be given a wristband for re-entry but they'll have to rejoin the back of the line.
Officials hope the measures will thwart another cluster of COVID-19 cases similar to the one linked to a West Nyack party that was made up of mostly young people.
The park provides a QR code feature that enables guests to scan and direct them to the Department of Health website. In the event of possible exposure, attendees will be contacted.
News 12 is told authorities will be monitoring illegal parking as the area is notorious for it.
