A fitness class in Rockland County works with people who have Parkinson's to try and beat the progression of the disease. Rock Steady Boxing is being offered by the Parkinson's Wellness Project at Power MMA/Krav Maga along Route 202 in Pomona.
Men's and women's classes are held every week there. There are caretakers and volunteers who step on the mat, too.
The nonprofit organization and the instructor say this workout gives participants a fighting chance from the progressive disease.
"The negative side of Parkinson's is that it's always going to make you worse. But, if we keep training, keep fighting, we can maintain, stay the same, and maintain quality of life," says Yuri Milshtein, of Power MMA Krav Maga.
