Rockland County Democratic Committee refuses to endorse state Sen. David Carlucci for re-election
The Rockland County Democratic Committee has announced that it will not endorse state Sen. David Carlucci in his re-election campaign.
Committee Chairwoman Christine Zebrowski-Stavisky told News 12 that the committee made the decision last Thursday at its convention. She says the problem is Carlucci's membership in the Independent Democratic Conference, which has resulted in the blockage of progressive legislation. In addition, she says a true Democratic majority with state Sen. Andrea Stewart-Cousins at the helm has been thwarted.
Carlucci said in a written statement over the weekend that he's proud of his record, and went on to say, "I agreed not to seek the party's nomination because I would not accept the conditions imposed by the executive committee that would have limited my ability to serve the residents of our community. I'm a proud Democrat and I look forward to being on the ballot, and continuing to serve for another two years."
The Rockland County Democratic Committee says it hopes to avoid a primary fight, and it has already spoken with a few candidates who have expressed an interest in running.
