Retailers look to attract Memorial Day shoppers
Many Hudson Valley retailers offered discounts on Memorial Day, hoping to spur consumer spending as the nation tries to pull out of the recession.
While Memorial Day is not about shopping, the holiday weekend is often used by retailers to trot out their summer merchandise, especially recreational products and summer clothes.
Some retail experts have been predicting this will be a slower Memorial Day weekend, which wouldn't bode well for the summer months.
But some shoppers say they have doubts the deals are really that good.
"They probably mark things up and they put them down a little bit for the sales, to make us think it's a real sale," says Yvette Darling, of White Plains.
