Mount Vernon residents united in prayer for Raynette Turner in front of City Hall Tuesday.
The 42-year-old mother of eight was found dead in her holding cell on July 27, two days after being arrested for shoplifting.
Her death is prompting a state probe by Attorney General Eric Schneiderman as community activists call for justice.
Authorities say that the investigation so far has revealed no wrongdoing by police.
Mount Vernon Mayor Ernie Davis is scheduled to discuss Schneiderman's probe Wednesday afternoon at the Doles Center.
Turner's funeral is scheduled for Friday.
