Hundreds of residents flocked to a warming center in Somers Sunday after remaining without heat and power from Friday’s nor’easter.

Many senior residents packed into the activity center at Heritage Hills waiting for the New York State Electric and Gas Corporation, also known as NYSEG, to restore power.

As of Sunday evening, NYSEG's website reported about 87 percent of homes in Somers were without power. Residents were being told the electricity won't be turned on until at least Monday night.

It’s not the first problem Somers residents have had with NYSEG. As News 12 reported, bills tripled last month and the community suffered multiple power outages this winter - some lasting days.

NYSEG's website estimated Sunday evening that it hoped to have 90 percent of its customers in Orange, Putnam and Westchester counties with power by Monday night at 11:45 p.m.
