Some residents in Orange County are becoming increasingly frustrated with a suspended building inspector's ongoing legal troubles.
Port Jervis Building Inspector Dave Rivera has been suspended with pay since April after he was arrested twice for alleged harassment and sexual harassment.
Residents are now complaining that Rivera's court appearances have repeatedly been delayed while the city pays his salary and an interim inspector. They say the city’s mayor has the authority to withhold Rivera's pay. "He keeps spending our money - $5,000 a month plus benefits - for this ex-building inspector to sit home and enjoy his time. It's not right! It's not right!" says resident Ed DeGroat.
Port Jervis Mayor Kelly Decker says the city's attorney recommended Rivera continue to be paid during his court proceedings to protect the city from a lawsuit.
