The Hewlett family has dedicated more than a decade to South Blooming Grove in Orange County, but ongoing water woes in the village have them feeling neglected.
Yvonne Hewlett says there is water available, but it’s undrinkable. She says it’s a problem that has been going on for years.
"It's disgusting. We have to wash our clothes, we have to brush our teeth, we have to wash our hair, and we can't do those things," she says.
A statement sent to News 12 by the mayor of the Village of South Blooming Grove says in part: "Unfortunately we have been battling water problems in the Village of South Blooming Grove since its inception in 2006. The village is currently in the process of securing grants and loan if necessary to fund a filtration system to alleviate future problems."
The statement made no mention of any timelines for a fix.
Until then, Hewlett says the community will continue to deal with health issues and spend money on cases of bottled water.
"Something needs to be done about it," says Hewlett.
