Animal rescuers removed 50 cats and two dogs from a house in Minisink.
Shelter workers from Pets Alive in Middletown say the animals endured horrific, "hoarding" conditions.
They say the home reeked of cat urine and feces. Additionally, they found dead animals inside.
An Orange County Sheriff's Deputy discovered the issue when he arrived to serve an eviction notice to the people living in the home.
The two dogs are reportedly in good health, but many of the cats are suffering from respiratory illnesses, rescuers say.
One of the cats was pregnant. She delivered two kittens safely at the shelter.
Pets Alive workers say the unusually large influx of new animals is taxing the facility's resources.
Shelter workers say they hope to find forever homes for all of the animals, once they are healthy.
