The unexpected victories Republicans scored Tuesday in the Hudson Valley and across the country have renewed their hopes for the 2010 mid-term elections, while giving Democrats something to think about.
New York State Republican Party Chair Ed Cox has seen the GOP's fortunes wax and wane over the years. On Tuesday night, he was in White Plains to witness the upset victory of Republican Rob Astorino over three-term Westchester County Executive Andy Spano.
"This is really a great victory for the people of New York State who need to cut spending and cut taxes," he says.
However, Westchester Democratic Chair Reginald Lafayette is not ready to concede the political battle field to the GOP, instead attributing Republican victories to low turnouts in Democratic strongholds.
