Report links baby pillows to Westchester infant deaths
A special panel investigation into three unexplained sudden infant death cases in Westchester and the Hudson Valley shows a certain baby pillow may have played a role.
The pillow, called the ?Boppy,? is intended to support a baby?s head while it is feeding. However, a new report issued by the Westchester County Child Fatality Review Board suggests that when the Boppy is used in another capacity it can be dangerous.
The medical examiner ruled the infants died of SIDS in 2006. Of the three deaths, one had a Boppy in a crib, while the two others used the pillow in other places.
The investigation is meant to also serve as a warning for parents to only use the Boppy for its intended use due to the risk of suffocation.
