Incumbent Democratic Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney declared victory Wednesday in the race for the 18th Congressional District seat.
“I’m here once again to thank the voters in this district for renewing my contract," he said.
Maloney is leading Republican challenger Chele Farley 51% to 48%.
Despite the tight race, the four-term congressman says it’s "mathematically impossible" for Farley to win.
“This is a clear win. I’ve won by more and I’ve won by less. Any of you who’ve covered me a while know this is a competitive seat. We don’t take anything for granted. I have to earn it and that’s good for the people I represent," he said.
Efforts to reach the Farley campaign for comment by News 12 have been unsuccessful.
