Rep. Nita Lowey spoke out Friday against President Donald Trump’s 2020 budget, saying that it puts families in the Hudson Valley at risk.

The congresswoman was at Post Road School in White Plains to make her case against the proposal. She says the budget would eliminate funding for afterschool initiatives, leaving more than 87,000 New York children without a place to go.

Rep. Lowey also says the potential cuts could put hard-working families at risk of making choices between shorter work hours and costly programs.

She says as chair of the House Appropriations Committee, she will push her colleagues to reject these cuts.

A budget must be passed by Oct. 1.
