An entire city block in Yonkers was filled with police officers Thursday who came to pay their final respects to a fellow officer who died on the job. Lieutenant John Steger, 52, worked in the communications division of the Yonkers Police Department. While at work Sunday, Steger fell ill and died later at the hospital of an aortic aneurysm. Steger was in line for a promotion to captain in the department.
Steger lived in Fishkill with his wife and two daughters.
