Red Sox fan assaulted outside Yonkers bar
Police say a baseball rivalry went too far when a Red Sox fan was severely beaten by two Yankees fans outside a Yonkers bar. According to police, 25-year-old Carlos Ortez was inside the Ramada Inn on Tuckahoe Road watching the Red Sox playoff game Wednesday. Ortez is from Boston and was in town working on a construction project. Police say two men from Pennsylvania were giving Ortez a hard time because he was a Red Sox fan. Ortez ignored the men and left the bar. Police say the hecklers, who were reportedly Yankees fans, followed Ortez to the parking lot and beat him so badly he had to be rushed to the hospital. Ortez is now out of intensive care at Westchester Medical Center, but is unable to speak to police due to multiple facial fractures.Police arrested Duane Somers and Edward McConaughey and charged them with felony assault.
