Dozens of people displaced by a fire in Yonkers are getting a helping hand from the Red Cross.

An Emergency Reception Center has been set up at the  Nodine Community Center for the people affected by the blaze on Oak Street this morning.

Fire has destroyed the multi-family homes at numbers 42 and 40 Oak St. and has caused serious water and smoke damage on the adjacent buildings.

Many people have arrived at the center with just the clothes they were sleeping in. “Obviously this is a traumatic event, people having to run from their home with almost nothing, just the clothes on their backs. Having a warm place to stay and regroup, having a Red Cross volunteer come up and say, ‘Hey we’re gonna be with you every step of the way’ makes all the difference in the road to recovery,” says Abby Adams, of the American Red Cross.
