A spate of recent shootings along Porash Street in Yonkers have spurred residents into action, advocating for safer neighborhoods. A new program called Safe Home Safe Neighbors has residents and town officials working together to clean things up. The Yonkers mayor told residents to be aware of their neighbors and to report suspicious activity to the police. Habitat for Humanity is also involved in helping Yonkers step up security. A Habitat for Humanity spokesperson says they are committed to creating strong neighborhood associations and increasing communication with residents and the police. Yonkers police arrested 11 people on weapons and narcotics charges in connection with the shooting spree.
