Rally against legalizing pot held outside Stewart-Cousins’ office
Community members gathered outside state Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins’ office Wednesday afternoon to rally against legalizing marijuana.
The opponents stood outside the Yonkers office of the Democratic leader, calling on lawmakers to slow down the process.
Their wish seemed to have come true as Gov. Andrew Cuomo withdrew his proposal for marijuana legislation in the upcoming state budget, which is due in two weeks.
"It's good news, but we're going to continue to organize, educate and empower and reach out to our legislators to let them know that this is not what we want in the state of New York,” said Abu Edwards, of Smart Approaches to Marijuana.
Cuomo says while the marijuana legislation will not be in the upcoming budget, that doesn’t mean it will not get done this year.
