Heavy rainfall toppled a retaining wall, threatening Yonkers homes as a nor'easter barreled down on Westchester and the Hudson Valley Sunday.

Firefighters say the rain weakened the 100-foot-wide, 10-foot-high wall behind some Kimball Avenue houses. Although no one was injured, authorities say homes remain at risk. "There is no support on the front of the deck. If it washes out anymore, that's the most dangerous part right now," said Yonkers Assistant Fire Chief James Hammer. Firefighters are waiting for the Buildings Department to shore up the homes.

In New Rochelle, public works crews are raking storm drains to keep them clear. However, workers say the volume of water may be too great to prevent flooding.
