Rabid cat causes health alert in Ossining
A health alert has been issued for a neighborhood in Ossining after a stray cat tested positive for rabies.
Animal control officers first found the feral feline at Edward Street and Lafayette Avenue on Monday.
Resident Bob Lovelace says the cat attacked neighbors on at least two occasions, causing police to intervene.
The officers wound up shooting the cat.
Five residents have been treated to prevent rabies.
The Westchester County Health Department is urging residents to not leave food or garbage cans out in their yards since it could attract stray cats.
