Putnam Valley Middle School officials identify student responsible for bomb threat
School officials say they have identified the student responsible for leaving a bomb threat inside a bathroom at Putnam Valley Middle School.
The school was evacuated for two hours Wednesday over the written bomb threat. The note was found in a boys' bathroom, saying a bomb would go off at the school at 10 a.m. It also mentioned guns.
"We never assume it's a joke," says Putnam Valley Superintendent Dr. Fran Wills. "In today's climate, everything is taken seriously."
Students were taken to the high school after the note was found and the district sent a number of emails to parents to keep them informed. After police and the sheriff's department swept the school and found nothing, school officials were given the all clear.
School officials would not say if the student responsible is in police custody, but they insist he will face a harsh punishment.
