Protesters take to Brooklyn Bridge over Garner decision
Thousands of marchers took to the Brooklyn Bridge Thursday night to protest the grand jury's decision in the Eric Garner case.
Wednesday's decision not to indict a police officer in the death of Eric Garner sparked protests across the city, many of which stopped traffic on major roadways. More protests have been reported across the nation.
City officials say the protests were peaceful.
Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Thursday that NYPD officers will undergo a retraining. De Blasio and Police Commissioner Bill Bratton said that 22,000 officers citywide will participate in the three-day retraining aimed at improving the dynamic between police and the community.
Garner's death quickly drew comparisons to the death of Michael Brown, who was fatally shot by a white officer in Ferguson, Missouri.
