A Queens man is charged with running a potentially dangerous drug lab inside of a Mastic home.
Joseph Guida, 44, is accused of running a drug lab to make ecstasy at the home. He started crying in federal court when his father put up his home to get him out of jail.
The judge released Guida on $800,000 bond. The judge told Guida that he will be placed on home detention with an electronic monitoring device, cannot have contact with his girlfriend and is to undergo drug abuse and mental health treatment and testing.
Authorities say the investigation into Guida started when they intercepted a package from China that was addressed to Guida. The package allegedly contained MDMA, the substance used to make ecstasy.
During Monday's federal bail hearing, prosecutors told the judge they seized a total of 306 pounds of marijuana at the lab in Mastic. Prosecutors also say the chemicals used to make ecstasy and the conditions inside the home were "highly volatile and dangerous."
Guida works for the New York City Department of Environmental Protection.
