A safety fence that's planned for the Warburton Avenue Bridge is sparking controversy in Hastings.

Westchester County has spent millions upgrading the bridge, which is located in the heart of downtown and overlooks the Hastings train station. Part of the renovation calls for the installation of a safety fence, but residents are worried that the beautiful views normally visible from the bridge will be obstructed.

Homeowner David Jackowe says the views from the historic county-owned bridge should be celebrated not blocked. Jackowe wants Village of Hastings officials to step in and help, but they say they have no power over the project.

Francis Froebel, the village manager, says it's the county's bridge. He says village officials had little say in the project, but were able to put up money in order to purchase a nicer fence.

Jackowe says he and other activists are going to hold the village accountable. He maintains the village should have pushed the county to find alternatives.
