Developers in Yonkers are hoping to build hotels in parts of the city that haven't seen that kind of development in years.
One proposal would turn a former auto repair shop into a luxurious, four-story hotel on South Broadway and Herriot Street.
Workers across the street at Caridad and Louie's Restaurant say the plan is just what the neighborhood needs, but not all agree. Many residents on South Broadway are against this plan as well as another six blocks away at the old site of the American Dream Restaurant.
Resident Milarand Kelley says the traffic it could bring is an issue. City Council President Mike Khader has other worries.
"It's not great what these hotel/motels bring to an area," says Khader. "From sex trafficking, to drugs, to prostitution. There's a school around the corner, I'm concerned."
Khader says he trusts the Yonkers Planning and Zoning boards will make the right choice for the community.
The boards will meet next month. Developers are hoping to start construction by the end of the year.
