There are now more than 3.4 million coronavirus cases in the U.S., and over 136,000 deaths.
Officials are now saying those numbers could get much worse.
The latest projection from the University of Washington shows the U.S. hitting more than 220,000 deaths by November.
It is all because of huge daily spikes in new cases.
With intensive care units nearing or hitting capacity in places like Florida, Texas and California, the director of the CDC says the second half of the year could be a major challenge. "I do think the fall and the winter of 2020 and 2021 are going to be one of the most difficult times that we've experienced in American public health.  Keeping the health care system from being over-stretched is really important," says CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield.
