Contrary to previous reports, the man behind a deadly armored car heist in Rockland County is still in prison.

A spokesman for the Federal Bureau of Prisons says that Mutulu Shakur, stepfather of the late rapper Tupac Shakur, is still behind bars for his role in the 1981 heist of a Brinks armored truck.

 Nyack police officers Edward O'Grady and Waverly "Chipper" Brown, along with Brinks Security Guard Peter Paige, were gunned down during the heist.

The spokesman says that a glitch in their computer system resulted in their website mistakenly posting that Shakur was due to be released.

Shakur was sentenced to 60 years in prison for his role and has a release date of Feb. 10, 2046. He has a parole hearing in April. Shakur remains in custody at FCC Victorville, California until the parole commission determines if he will be released.

The Brinks Robbery Memorial at the Exit 11 Thruway entrance stands as a permanent reminder of the sacrifice given by the men.
